Brown Butterfly

The upper surface and underneath surface of the wings is light brown and dark brown respectively. 
How many eye spots this butterfly has ?

Asytasia Chelonoides

These small grey purple trumpet flowers with white borders and the buds are all unique and attractive. 

Peculiar Light from the Sky

It was a clear bright night on 28th January 2014, the sky was amazing bright, glitter with star lights. I was on the way back to Sarikei, in fact, about 35km from Sarikei. I stopped for a while to watch the brilliant  stars, which I had not seen for a long time.
I pointed my Camera towards the Orion Constellation, without expecting much (to take night picture, I need a solid stand and long exposure). 
The picture came out to be a bit odd, instead of thousands of stars, the light was like a fishing hook!
The continuous line could be explained by the exposure time of 1.3s, but the shape is peculiar, did I shake my hands ? May be some experts can explain this!

Yellow and orange Canna Flowers

These flowers are also beautiful and outstanding especially in the early morning. 
But by noon, it starts to show ageing and dehydration.

Spilopelia chinensis (Spotted Dove)

The bird was loitering on the footpath of the Friendship Park, looking for food.
It has a white-spotted black collar on the hind neck. The head and breast are pinkish brown while the wing part is brown.

Origin of Chinese New year festival

Why Chinese celebrated the Chinese New year?
According to the legend, there was a monster called "nien(year)" resembling the lion, preying on the people long time ago, probably appearing during the new moon. By chance, they found that the monster was scared of drum noise, red banners and the firecrackers, and they successfully drove off the monster on the second new moon after the Winter Solstice. From there onwards, the Chinese celebrated this new moon as the Chinese New Year which was also fixed as the beginning the Chinese lunar calender.
Therefore, the Chinese New Year is always accompanied by releasing of firecrackers, lion dance, drumming and red papers.

There was some basis of the noise scaring off the creature. Just look at the reaction of our dog when firecrackers were released, hide beneath the car for a long time, refusing to come out!

Heliconia pendula (The false bird of paradise)

I think this is the most suitable flower for the Chinese New Year, considered that the Chinese spent so much money on the fire crackers. 
The flower bracts look like fire crackers.
