Melastoma malabathricum (rhododendron)

There are two types of insects hanging around the wild pink flower. The brownish ants focus on the petals while the black and white striped bee clings on the anther. What are they looking for ?

Cascabela thevetia (Yellow Oleander)

This tropical evergreen shrub does not have many flowers like Tecoma stans, but the few trumpet flowers are distinguished among the narrow green leaves. The plant is toxic.
There are plenty of these plants at the Serian Lake Garden.

The power of Tree Roots

These large concrete steps are constructed to assist tourists to walk at Sebangoi Forest Reserve near Sarkei. But the steps in many places are distorted by the roots of the nearby trees. These roots move underground in search for water and nutrients. In the process, they change the landscape, uplift or cover the ground and dry the soil. 
If you visit the Cambodia's lost city El Dorado, you will understand the power of Tree roots!

Laughing Wild Fruits

This wild tree in my farm is producing fruits and open up voluntarily to offer me orange flesh. I do not know whether the fruits are poisonous or not. 
But I saw two large birds with the red head, sitting on the tree branch and probably came to eat the fruits, led me to conclude that the fruits were likely edible. They seemed to be laughing!

Sour orange

The plant in my farm is producing five fruits. In Sarawak, you can order the drink in any coffee shop, a popular drink. Just cut the small orange into two halves, squeeze the juice into a glass, add some sugar water and ice. The drink will cool your thirst on the hot day.
