I have used finite element method to solve some structural and geotechnical engineering problems. Finite element method only becomes popular with the advent of powerful personal computer which is less than thirty-five years ago.
This dragonfly shows the finite element patterns imprinted on its wings, which was evolved 200-300 millions years ago. The design is so efficient that it can achieve 97km/hr and can manoeuvre almost in all directions despite being so small!
We are very far behind them in engineering!
